India to Host G20 Climate Finance Summit in New Delhi

India will host the upcoming G20 Climate Finance Summit in New Delhi, positioning itself as a key player in global climate negotiations. Scheduled for December, the summit aims to finalize a framework for funding energy transition in developing nations. Union Finance and Environment Ministries are coordinating with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) to draft proposals on concessional financing, debt relief, and private capital mobilization. India is advocating for $1 trillion in climate finance to be made accessible to Global South economies by 2030. The summit is expected to draw participation from over 40 nations and major financial institutions. Analysts believe India’s leadership could shift the global narrative toward inclusive climate responsibility and green growth. A preparatory workshop was held in Mumbai, and public consultations are ongoing. Key deliverables include a draft “Green Financing Charter” and a voluntary carbon pricing roadmap for G20 economies. The summit reflects India’s dual role—as a climate-vulnerable country and a solution provider.
